The International Airport of Berlin-Tegel "Otto Lilienthal" is the main international airport in Berlin, in the Tegel area, 8 km north-east of the centre of Berlin. It serves the highest number of scheduled flights arriving in Berlin and departing from Berlin (more than 13 million passengers in 2007). Tegel is the main base of Air Berlin.
The airport was built in the post-war period in 1948 and is dedicated to civil traffic since 1960.

Berlin-Tegel Terminal

The Tegel Airport is characterised by the hexagonal shape of the main terminal, which greatly shortens the distance between the landing area and the terminal exit.
The Berlin-Tegel airport has 4 terminals. The majority of airline companies is found in Terminals A and B. Terminal C, mainly used by Air Berlin, was opened in 2007 to decrease traffic in the other two Terminals. The small Terminal D is found next to the building of Terminal A and is mostly used by TUIfly.

How to get to Berlin-Tegel Airport

The airport is connected to motorway BAB 111. Bus connections, which connect the underground lines U6 and U7 to the airport, are also available.
There are also buses that connect the airport to the train lines: bus JetExpress TXL connects the metropolitan railway (S-Bahn) station "Beusselstraße" to "Berlin Hauptbahnhof" (Berlin's main station) and to the "Alexanderplatz" station; bus X9 express connects to the S/U-Bahn station "Zoologischer Garten".
