The company, which was established in 2002, got its name from the founding company Evolavia srl. It is a company belonging to the Aerdorica Group and functions as a tour operator at Raffaello Sanzio airport in Ancona. Evolavia is a virtual, low-cost airline, meaning it operates with the help of other carriers: it doesn't directly manage operative services (via its own aircraft) but rather as an intermediary in collaboration with various air companies, depending on the stopover. Evolavia's objective is to achieve a total of 850.000 passengers by 2011.

Among the main airports served by Evolavia are: Paris (in collaboration with Europe Airpost), Barcelona (in collaboration with Spanair), Moscow (in collaboration with KrasAir), Alghero, Ancona, Palermo. In the past few years, Evolavia was the Official Travel Supplier of the Ancona Jazz Summer Festival.
