Monarch Airlines is an English airline, founded in 1967, with headquarters in Luton (UK). It is a subsidiary of the Monarch Travel Group. It operates scheduled and charter flights, and is one of the largest UK airlines flying in Europe, the US, Caribbean, India and Africa. It also offers flights to various destinations within the Mediterranean area, especially to the Canary Islands and Cyprus; it also offers charter flights for Cosmos Holidays. Secondary hubs are London Gatwick, Manchester and Birmingham.

In 1972 Monarch carries 500 thousand passengers in a year and in 1988 it achieves a record 2 million passengers in one year. In 1981 it opens routes from London Gatwick, Manchester and Berlin. In Berlin, Monarch begin relations with tour operators for charter flights. In 1985-86 routes to Spain were added and a joint-venture with AirFrance and Lufthansa was agreed.
