The Jet2.com airline is part of Dart Group PLC which has been operating commercial flights since 1978. Originally Jet2 was named Channel Express and it specialised in cargo flights. Only in 2001 did Jet2 open for the transportation of passengers, becoming a company that transports both cargo and passengers.

Jet2.com quickly embraces the no frills trend and becomes a low-cost airline in all senses in 2002, starting operations on 12 February 2003 from Leeds Bradford airport, with direct flights predominantly to Amsterdam, and in the same year it expands its routes to 6 other destinations. In 2006 the company moves its headquarters from Bournemouth to Leeds, today a main hub of the company.
