KLM Royal Dutch Airlines is the national airline company of the Netherlands and now services over 90 destinations.  Founded in 1919, KLM is based in Amsterdam, at Schiphol Airport. KLM is at the core of the KLM Group, made up of KLM Cityhopper and of the low cost airline company Transavia. Before the 2004 merger with Air France, KLM was the national airline of the Netherlands.  With the merger, the first European airline group was born, with operating bases in the important hubs of Paris Charles De Gaulle and Amsterdam Schiphol.
 
Air-France-KLM is part of the SkyTeam Alliance, along with Aeroflot, AeroMexico, Air Europa, Alitalia, China Southern, Continental Airlines, Copa Airlines, CSA Czech Airlines, Delta, Kenya Airways, Korean Air, Northwest Airlines (NWA).

07.10.2009: On this day, 90 years ago, KLM was founded - this makes KLM the oldest airline in the world still operating under its original name.

21.09.2009: KLM offers 2 new online services to its clients. In addition to air tickets, hotel accomodations and car rentals, KLM now offers airport parking and transport between the airport and the city centre. KLM is offering these services in partnership with iSeatz, which will improve the overall service to clients.

16.09.2009: Starting in December, passengers travelling in Economy Class on intercontinental flights will have the option of choosing seats with greater comfort. KLM will introduce the New Economy Comfort Zone, which offers ten centimetres more leg room and back support that reclines twice as much as before. And because this new section is located closer to the front of the plane, passengers travelling in the Economy Comfort Zone will be able to exit the plane before regulier Economy class passengers. Depending on the distance of the flight, the price of the new zone will be between 80€ and 150€.

23.06.2009: KLM Royal Dutch Airlines and Russian Carrier Rossiya have signed a code share agreement, which allows the airlines to market flights between Amsterdam and St-Petersburg under each others' flight numbers. This collaboration has advantages for both KLM and Rossiya passengers: customers will have more flights to choose from. The agreement between KLM and Rossiya is effective as of June 22, 2009.

20.05.2009: A new long-term joint venture between Air France-KLM and Delta Airlines was announced today. Partners will jointly operate their trans-Atlantic business by coordinating operations and sharing revenues and costs on their Trans-Atlantic route network. For customers, this means an increase in choice, flight frequencies, more convenient filght schedules and more competitive fares.

28.04.2009: KLM Royal Dutch Airlines' Volunteers raise money for an important bicycle project in Kenya. The aim of this project is to finance bicycles for children in Kenya who live more than 10km away from their school. Volunteets have organized various activities, such as Spinning marathons, parties and lectures in order to raise the funds necessary.

21.04.2009: Air France-KLM announced that it has been chosen to take part in the second round of the privatization of the Czech Airline, CSA. Air France-KLM is pleased to be taking part in such a collaboration and plans to continue collaborating with the Czech Authorities concerned.

16.04.2009: SkyTeam and Vietnam Airlines have signed a preliminary agreement today confirming the airline's first steps towards full membershio in the SkyTeam Alliance. Vietnam Airlines will improve SkyTeam's network in Southeast Asia, adding an important number of destinations throughout the region, and thus improving choices for customers.

25.03.2009: The Air France-KLM group announced today that is has completed the acquisition of a 25% stake in Alitalia. This strengthened partnership gives Air France-KLM greater access to the Italian market.

10.02.2009: KLM will be resuming its service to Denpasar as of December 6. The service was last operated in 1997. As Bali is a popular destination, KLM will offer flights 3 times weekly, in addition to the daily service to Jakarta. Reservations can be made as of October 3.

29.01.2009: The Air France-KLM group received two prizes this week for the best annual sustainable development report  in the Netherlands and in France. The prizes for being the most communicative report and for having the best annual sustainable development report aim to promote corporate social responsibility. The group was praised for its clarity and how it demonstrated that CSR is actually embedded in the organization. The reports can be seen at www.klm.com/sustainability

10.01.2009: KLM Royal Dutch Airlines presented today its new women's uniform at a fashion show help at Schiphol Airport. Mart Vessier, a fashion designer from the Netherlands, has designed a new uniform, keeping the blue color that has characterized it since 1971 but my completely changing the shape of the uniform.

17.12.2008: KLM becomes full owner  of Martinair - which will strengthen its strategic position and extend its network, as well as increase services to customers.

28.11.2008: As of January 5th, 2009, all flights from Amsterdam to London City Airport, which were previously operated by VLM Airlines and KLM Cityhopper, will be operated by CityJet. This will improve service to customers. Both Economy and Business Classes will be offered on flights. CityJet will provide eight return flights from Monday through Friday, one on Saturdays and four on Sundays. The flights will continue to be sold on the KLM website. Improved service will also be available for flights to London CIty with departures from Rotterdam and Eindhoven airports.

06.11.2008: KLM and Air France launch Bluenity, the first online social network for air travellers which will allow travellers to share their tips for hotels, restaurants and shopping anywhere in the world. Passengers will be able to make their flight schedule public and get updates from fellow travelers about their flight arrangements. Bluenity is available in 3 languages (English, French, Dutch) and is free of charge.

03.11.2008: KLM Royal Dutch Airlines is launching a new service between Amsterdam and Liverpool. This new service will seamlessly connect Liverpool to over 100 destinations around the world. Even during these difficult economic times, KLM chooses to reinforce its European hub and its network.

15.10.2008: Yesterday, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines and Malaysia Airlines, having served over 1 million passengers worldwide, celebrated their 10 year partnership.

12.10.2008: KLM Dutch Royal Airlines is launching a new scheduled service to Calgary, Alberta in Canada. The scheduled service will be operated using Airbus 330-200 equipment. Calgary is the fourth largest economic region in Canada and due to its oil and energy markets, it is undergoing significant growth. In addition to these strong business values, KLM is meeting important tourism demands. Calgary is an important ski resort destination, located in the middle of the Canadian Rocky Mountains. The first flight to Calgary will be on May 3rd, 2009.

04.09.2008: As of September 4, 2008, passengers of KLM Royal Dutch Airlines will be able to receive their boarding pass on their mobile phone. KLM takes customers' needs at heart. They realize that customers have very little time and need convenience when it comes to travelling. The electronic boarding pass sent to the mobile will have all the information displayed on a conventional boarding pass, including a secure barcode that is scanned at the gate.

27.08.2008: KLM will be deploying the modern, more economical Boeing 737-700 on its European routes. This new planes will be replacing the old fleet and improving sustainability, as these carriers produce less CO2.

26.06.2008: Innovative self-service baggage drop-off trial at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport starts today. It will allow passengers to check-in their own baggage and will therefore simplify the travel process for passengers and reduce queues. As more and more passengers use self-serve kiosks and online check-in options, KLM aims to meet the needs of its clients by allowing them to manage their own time while at the airport. Passengers' experiences and feedback will be used and will be an important part of the process.

01.06.2008: KLM Royal Dutch Airlines announced today that it will only issue e-tickets for its flights, and this starting as of June 1st, 2008. The company's goal is to drive paper out of the ticketing process and thus saving over 50,000 mature trees every year. The e-tickets will simply many processes as well, including modifying a reservation or checking-in online. The e-ticket will save the airline industry over 3 billion USD annually.

29.05.2008: KLM will introduce new meals on board starting on June 1st. All World Business Class meals will be created by a Swiss Master chef, inspired by the Euro 2008 football championship. In addition, Economy Class passengers will be offered a wider variety of meals than in the past.

10.04.2008: KLM Royal Dutch Airlines and OneCarbon have jointly engaged in an emission reduction project. This project provides KLM with the opportunity to make its growth carbon neutral and to offer passengers the possibility to compensate their carbon footprint. The companies are jointly engaged in the development of Gold Standard voluntary emission reduction projects, which focuses on reducing CO2 emissions through renewable energy and energy efficiency activities.

04.03.2008: KLM will operate, starting March 30th, 2008, 2 new daily flights to North America: Amsterdam Schiphol - Dallas, Texas and Amsterdam Schiphol - Portland, Oregon (the flight will be operated by Northwest Airlines, a KLM partner).
As of March 30th, KLM will operate three weekly flights from Amsterdam to Panama City’s Tocumen International Airport, KLM’s 62nd intercontinental destination.

23.02.2008: KLM will begin operating service between Amsterdam and Linköping, Sweden, 200km south of Stockholm. KLM is the first major international airline to serve a Swedish destination outside the major metropolitan areas.  KLM becomes the first international airline company to serve 3 destinations in Sweden (Stockholm, Linköping, and Gothenburg)
