One way of experiencing culture in Thailand, is by visiting some of the architecturally inspiring palaces and temples in Bangkok. One of the top palaces has to be the Grand Palace! This Palace was the home of the Thai King for over 150 years and was built back in 1782. In this astonishing architecture there is also the Thai war ministry. No wonder this palace is considered to be the spiritual heart of the Thai Kingdom. Another must-see temple that no visit to Bangkok would be complete without, is the Wat Arun. Among the local people this temple is also referred to as the 'Wat Chaeng' and is situated next to the bank of the Chao Phraya River. This temple of dawn is made up of colourful decorated spires and stands splendidly over the river. Together with these top two palaces/temples, there are hundreds more, the most important thing to do when visiting Bangkok is to experience the Thai culture through the Thai architecture!
A ride in the Thonburi Klongs is the best way to experience the old capital of Bangkok, a city that managed to escape the modernisation phenomenon. This is a great way to see the way the people of Bangkok used to live!
The Chinatown Market is an old market where the tastiest fresh food is found. So if food is something you like to experiment with, you can try the birds nest soup (or better known as the obscure), or the duck (ostentatious). Don't be frightened by their name, the taste is delicious! If you are not particularly adventurous to try this food, there is still a feast for your eyes to enjoy this market.
Visit the major river in Thailand, Chao Phraya River, also known as the "river of the kings", and appreciate why it is known to locals as the lifeblood of Bangkok. A river boat or ferry would be the best way!
