Ryanair check-in procedures. Avoid paying extra at the airport

All passengers flying with Ryanair are required to check-in online, print their boarding pass(es) before travelling, and present them along with a valid travel document, checked by the airline, at the airport.

Should you arrive at the airport without your boarding pass, you may incur fees. Explained below;

  • if you have already checked-in online, a payment of 15€ (or the equivalent in local currency) per person, per route will be charged at the airport.
  • You did not check-in online in advance and need to check-in at the airport, a payment of 70€ (or the equivalent in local currency) per person per route, will be required.

From 1st February 2014, at the time you check-in online you will be able to select your seat at the same time. As additional cost is expected, as established by the airline which can change according to the seat allocation selected. You have two scenarios;

  • ADVANCE ONLINE CHECK-IN (30 days to 2 hours before each flight): only available to customers who select to purchase an allocated seat.
  • GENERAL ALLOCATED SEATS (7 days to 2 hours before each flight): available to customers who don't wish to pay for an allocated seat and will be allocated a seat free of charge.

Please note that the amount charged for choosing an allocated seat varies based on the seat chosen.

Once you have checked-in online it won’t be possible to modify passenger(s)’s name, date, flight schedule or itinerary, add services such as hold luggage or sport equipment, priority boarding, etc.

You could eventually add these services contacting our call centre on 0044 (0)20 3355 2107 (national landline number, the costs depends on the provider), available Monday to Sunday, 8-24 (local time), or in the airport by paying the amount due.

Passengers arriving at the airport with their printed boarding pass(es) and a valid travel document, checked by the airline, can:

  • check-in at least 1 hour before the scheduled departure time to carry their baggage (desk closes 40 minutes before scheduled departure time);
  • arrive at the airport security checks at least 30 minutes before scheduled departure time if travelling with hand luggage only.

All passengers, including children, must have a valid travel document (Passport or ID Card - DRIVING LICENSE IS NOT ACCEPTED) for domestic flights too, that includes Kindausweis and Birth Certificate issued by an EEA country with the same data of their boarding pass.

Irrespective of a passenger's visa requirements, all non EU/EEA citizens must have their travel documents checked and online boarding pass(es) stamped at the Ryanair Visa/Document Check Desk BEFORE going through airport security.

Visa/Document check desk closes 40 minutes before scheduled departure time.

Remember that requests to change a booking are only accepted by telephone.

Ryanair history

Ryanair was established in 1985 and is now the largest low cost carrier in Europe. An Irish owned airline and CEO Michael O'Leary, Ryanair has operational bases in Dublin and London Stansted Airport. The no frills, low cost airline revolutionised the air travel industry and now has a route network that serves 28 countries in Europe as well as Morocco, operating around 300 Boeing 737-800 aircraft.

Ryanair is now amongst the top European low cost airlines. Ryanair's no frills approach has meant that by cutting certain luxuries on the aircraft, like reclining seats, the flight prices can be made to be equally as low cost. Ryanair continuously revises how to save money enabling them to sell ever cheaper flight tickets. By 1995, in continuing its steady pursuit of its low-cost business model, Ryanair celebrated its 10th birthday by carrying 2.25 million passengers.
